| The
first WGUK SPINTASTIC event took place on Saturday 28th April 2007 in
Riseley, Bedfordshire and was attended by just under 90
people. Whilst it would have been nice to have more attendees,
the venue was ideally suited to the numbers in attendance.
The main sessions were run as practical
workshops in movement, flag, rifle and sabre and were specifically
geared towards performing members. The participants were split
into two groups, intermediate and advanced, which allowed the clinicians
to work on aspects suited to the particular group and after each
session there was a chance for each group to give a demonstration.

A session was also held in the morning
giving information on starting up a unit from scratch and whilst
only attended by one newly formed organisation it was also a chance
to formulate data for future publications which will be made
available to anyone thinking of setting up. In the afternoon a
"theory" session was held discussing show design.
WGUK Chairman, Mark Gutteridge, commented at
the end of day "It was great to see the performing members from
different organisations meet on a non competitive
basis whilst at the same time learn new skills plus a chance for
me to meet with staff
and personnel from Guards in a more relaxed atmosphere. There will
be more of these types of events organised in the future and I hope
others will consider attending as we can all learn from one another
and help move this exciting and vibrant activity forward".
