update from WGUK
With the recent announcement that Winter Guard International have made the decision to cancel all their 2020
World Championships events due to take place over the first couple of weeks of
April we felt we should advise the current WGUK situation.
We are continually monitoring official advise being issued and have today spoken to the University of Worcester. We have approximately 1,600 attending our event (compared to 16,000+ plus for WGI) and the University class our event as “low risk” and whilst, as a precaution, they are putting extra cleaning programmes in place plus making hand sanitisers more readily available, they are
currently still more than happy that our event will be taking place.
The advice we have listed below still stands and if anyone involved within your organisation shows signs of being ill then…
• Actively encourage anyone sick to stay home
• Separate sick participants and staff: it is recommended that those who appear to have acute respiratory illness symptoms (i.e. cough, shortness of breath) upon arrival to rehearsals/events or become sick during the day should be separated from rest of the group and be sent home immediately
• Emphasize staying home when sick, respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene by all those in your organisation
We will obviously continue to monitor and take official advise and update you with any further developments should they occur.
We wish all our friends involved with WGI the very best and appreciate
what a hard decision this must have been.
